Belize is home to one of the world's most unique and captivating endangered mammals. Often described as ‘sea cows’, The West Indian manatee species can be spotted all year round in Belize.

They are curious, gentle, and playful creatures.

Conservation

Manatees are considered an endangered species in Belize. With approximately 1000 manatees living in Belize, the government is taking serious steps in collaboration with domestic and international NGOs to protect the manatee population.

Interesting Fact

An adult manatee can average 10 feet in length and can weigh between 800 and 1200 pounds.
